Phase I included a 17,000 SF addition to the existing law enforcement center, which consisted of a sallyport, 114 beds, state-of-the-art security technology with better surveillance and remote door locking, space for law enforcement offices, and onsite medical services to safely house and manage inmates struggling with substance abuse or mental health disorders.
Phase II features a 9,000 SF complete remodel of the existing Phelps County Jail Facilities, consisting of 43 beds, a new work release dorm, a kitchen remodel, laundry upgrades, increased modular storage spaces, law enforcement offices, new segregation cells outfitted with adjustable lighting and calming audio recordings to psychologically assist inmates, especially those with mental health disorders, and new facility rooms including interview spaces, attorney visit rooms, and video visitation kiosks. The renovation also includes modernizing the existing electronic security system, including all new cameras, new door locks, added security features, an upgraded control room, and a state-of-the-art security software system.
